Beer City Winds

Beer City Winds (BCW) is an adult symphonic band that provides a semi-professional performing experience for high-level players. Meeting and performing for eight weeks in the early summer (to accommodate students and teachers on a school-year schedule), this ensemble’s diverse membership allows for a unique instrumental community that prides itself on technical precision, musicality, and emotional depth.

Core Values

  • Musicality: BCW is dedicated to a high level of music making with experienced musicians.
  • Member-Driven Management: The BCW experience depends on the skill of each performer as an artist. In addition, many members have the opportunity to direct and work with the ensemble from the podium.
  • Diversity: Diversity in age, race, occupation, experience, and gender strengthens our ensemble. BCW purposely recruits and values diverse membership and leadership.
  • Innovation: At its heart, BCW is a creative ensemble, fueled by excitement for new ideas regarding concerts, repertoire, instrumentation, and musicality.

Member Selection

There is a selection process, but no auditions are required. Members are expected to be active professional or professional-quality musicians in some capacity, i.e. performers, music educators, or full-time music students. Interested musicians must fill out the membership application (linked below), and the director will review and select the most qualified members. Ensemble balance is crucial, and the ensemble prioritizes members with the highest level of time commitment. Application review will begin on April 15 and all applicants will be contacted following this process.
